Hear The Thunder

Formed in Adelaide, South Australia in 1978, Hear The Thunder became the unofficial house band at The Belcher Hotel.  Their unique mix of pub rock and Caribbean influences led to a record deal and ultimately international success, largely due to the hit singles “Where Cassowaries Roam” and “Dingo Star” from their debut album Wombat Rock.

The brainchild of frontman Roy Hinkley, the band only survived until 1983, when principal soloist and didgeridoo player Jonas Grumby had an unfortunate run-in with a homicidal pademelon while on holiday in Brisbane.  Hinkley continued with solo work, while the other surviving members formed a successful emu breeding cooperative (even winning, with great pride, “Largest Egg” at the 1990 Royal Adelaide Show).
